Meet the Founder

Scott Miner

I’ve been building, fixing, and creating for as long as I can remember. As a kid, I was the one taking apart bikes, toys, and old electronics just to see how they worked — and then figuring out how to make them work better. That curiosity led me to mechanical engineering, where I discovered the perfect blend of problem-solving, design, and hands-on craftsmanship.

Over the past decade, I’ve worked across manufacturing plants, CNC prototyping labs, and custom fabrication shops. My career has taken me from designing outdoor products and precision fixtures to troubleshooting robotic production lines. Along the way, I developed a deep respect for the intersection of engineering precision and practical buildability — because a design is only as good as its execution.

Outside of work, I’ve always had a personal workshop. I design and build furniture with clean, functional lines; I’ve spent years renovating my 1920s Pittsburgh home from the ground up; and I still love diving into challenging projects just for the joy of making. These personal projects have reinforced the same values I bring to my professional work: quality, attention to detail, and solutions that last.

Why I started Rivet

Over the years, I noticed something: many great ideas never made it past the “napkin sketch” stage, and many small-run or one-off projects were either priced out of big shops or treated as afterthoughts. I wanted to create a place where precision engineering, creative problem-solving, and small-scale flexibility could live under one roof. A place where clients could get the same level of care for a single prototype as they would for a large production run.

Rivet Design & Fabrication is my answer to that need. It’s built for entrepreneurs, small businesses, inventors, and anyone who values craftsmanship, communication, and quality that lasts. For me, it’s not just about making parts — it’s about bringing ideas into the world the right way, with the right materials, and with the same pride I’d put into something I was keeping for myself.

When I take on a project, I’m not just thinking about how to get it done — I’m thinking about how to make it better, how to make it last, and how to make sure it delivers on your vision. That’s the heart of Rivet Design & Fabrication, and it’s why I get excited about every new project that comes through the door.
